The TYT Network and Tastemade are now available. Both channels are live right away for those of you who are subscribers/ For those not familiar, TYT (The Young Turks) is a progressive news network, while Tastemade is all about that food game. I just watched 2 minutes of Tastemade and already want to go cook something. You don't have to do anything to watch either, just sign-in and you'll find both channels.

| Sony Pushing Google Assistant Integration to Select Headphones, Earbuds Posted: 17 May 2018 12:05 PM PDT   It appears Sony has begun the process of pushing true Google Assistant integration to select models of headphones and earbuds, specifically the WI-1000X and WH-1000XM2. First spotted by Android Police, this update will allow for users to hear notification read backs via Assistant, plus it will let you speak to Assistant more easily for requesting info and issuing commands. If you own one of these first headsets to receive the update, simply update your firmware via the Headphones Connect app on Google Play. If you don't see your Sony headset listed about, don't worry, Sony mentioned earlier this year that it intends to roll out Assistant integration to the WF-1000X, WH-CH900N, and h.ear on 2 WH-H900N in the future. | Here is the HTC U12+ and All of Its Specs and Features Posted: 17 May 2018 12:04 PM PDT   HTC plans to announce a new phone next week, a phone we all expect to be dubbed the HTC U12+. Info surrounding the device has leaked here and there, but thanks to another today by @evleaks, we pretty much know it all now. Everything from the colors and design to the specs and features have been revealed early. Where do we begin? How about with a look at the phone itself. The images above showcase both clear and red versions, while you'll find the black version below. HTC is bringing back its Liquid Surface design, which should just mean a cool looking glass back. Overall, the U12+ is quite attractive, even if it does look like an LG V30 hung out too long with a G7 ThinQ. There's no notch, though!
But we've got a big ol' 6″ QHD+ Super LCD 6 display, mostly-slim top and bottom bezels, dual camera on the back that's made up of 12MP wide-angle and 16MP telephoto lenses, 6GB RAM, 64GB or 128GB storage, BoomSound, and a Snapdragon 845. You've got IP68 water and dust resistance too, USonic active noise cancellation, 3500mAh battery with fast charging, and Android 8.0 under HTC Sense. It'll get Android P too, we just don't know when. In other interesting notes, the spec sheet that was leaked talks about a couple of things that caught my eye. For one, HTC Edge Sense 2 is here as the next-gen version of HTC's squeezy sides. You can still squeeze to access apps, but HTC has added a long-hold to rotate the phone or dim it, a double tap for one-handed use, and customizable gestures (launch camera, voice assistant, etc.). The spec sheet also lists "pressure-sensitive buttons and a new touch feedback experience" too. I have no idea what to make of either thing, but expanding functionality to buttons is never a bad thing in my opinion.
The rest of the list of specs is impressive, as is typically the case with HTC phones. It's not often that HTC forgets much and that appears to be the case here too. There isn't wireless charging or a headphone jack, but everything else is there like OIS in the camera, HDR 10 support in the display, fingerprint sensor, hi-res audio, and more. Google Home can start playback of video content from plenty of streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. This has been a thing since shortly after Home launched, but Google’s own Play Movies platform was not included for some reason. After getting some hints last week that the feature would arrive, it’s now official. To launch content from your Google Play Movies library, just tell Assistant what you want to watch. It really is that easy—no setup is required to use Play Movies. Since it’s tied to your Google account, setting up Google Home automatically configures this option. Thus, it will not appear in your Assistant account settings. According to Google’s support page, you can play both movies and TV in Play Movies. We’ve tested this with purchased content in Play Movies, and it works fine. Rented items should also work as they appear in your library for the duration of the rental period. | Sega just released ‘Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Edition’ as part of their SEGA Forever program Posted: 17 May 2018 12:04 PM PDT  Sega’s Super Monkey Ball series has had an odd history on mobile. Back around the time when the first iPhone hit the scene, there was a lame pixel-based Monkey Ball that was available as one of the App Store’s selling points. Suffice it to say it wasn’t all that great. Then in 2012 Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition was released on iOS and Android, though the Android version was eventually pulled from the Play Store in 2015. Well, since then people have been clambering for a new Monkey Ball game on Android, and obviously, the SEGA Forever program is the best way to go about releasing such a title. But what we just received is no classic in the vein of the arcade or Gamecube games, it’s just a remix of the same gameplay found in the original Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition, just with an ever so slightly tweaked skin. That’s right, Sega, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to pervert their SEGA Forever program. It has up until this point been made up of only classic Sega titles, but by re-releasing a failed mobile game they conveniently pulled off the Play Store in 2015 it’s clear the “classic” moniker doesn’t mean all that much. So if you would like to revisit Super Monkey Ball on Android, you will now have to put up with the numerous ads that go along with every Forever release or pay $1.99 to remove them. Sadly for those of us who already paid for the original Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition, this is a bit of a raw deal. But hey, enough of my whinging, here is what you can expect from the newly released Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Edition. Firstly you have four monkeys to choose from as playable characters. These include AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, and GonGon. You can also expect 6 different worlds to explore with a total of 125 stages, which should provide plenty of ball-rolling and banana collecting mayhem. There are also four additional mini-games, and yes, Monkey Target is one of them, but you will also find Monkey Bowl, Golf, and Base available as well. Controls still work the same as they did in Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition. At the beginning of each stage, you will have to line up a dot in the center of a tiltmeter so that the controls are calibrated correctly. As you hold your device still a timer will count down, then you are free to start moving by using your accelerometer to control the tilt of the stage. So yeah, there is no virtual analog stick to be found, everything is controlled by tilting your device.
With the wavering ability for Sega to release competent emulations of their classic titles it looks like they are now relying on failed mobile games that are native to the platform to try and boost their floundering Forever program. While I don’t doubt Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Edition will find some fans now that it’s available for free with ads, I still find it questionable that Sega couldn’t bother supporting the original when it’s somehow now easily labeled a classic worthy of the Forever program. I’m really starting to wonder if Sega knows what they are doing anymore because it clearly doesn’t look like it from the outside. | Google+ v10.6 may finally bring customizable fonts, colors, lists, and more [APK Teardown] Posted: 17 May 2018 12:04 PM PDT  Google told us about a great many things at I/O that are coming to many different products across the Google family, but one big service wasn’t mentioned: Google+. We’ve been waiting for a while to see some changes in the company’s only true social network, and now there’s actually something to look forward to. A teardown of the APK points to a significant enhancement to the text formatting features already available to users. What’s NewUnofficial Changelog: (the stuff we found)
Privacy settings and policyLet’s quickly run through a couple of changes that do exist in this update.
Open up the Settings screen and drill down into the account settings and look for the Privacy section. In there, you’ll see a new link to ‘Manage Web & App Activity’ that opens Google’s Activity controls page in a web view. This is just a shortcut from the app to a page served by Google. This change probably would have been made eventually, but like many apps and services, it was likely prompted by the European Union’s GDPR going into effect.
In the same thread, there is now a link to the privacy policy sitting in the navigation drawer – exactly where everybody needed it to be. TeardownDisclaimer: Teardowns are based on evidence found inside of apks (Android’s application package) and are necessarily speculative and usually based on incomplete information. It’s possible that the guesses made here are wrong or inaccurate. Even when predictions are correct, there is always a chance that products could change or may be canceled. Much like rumors, nothing is certain until it’s officially announced and released. The features discussed below are probably not live yet, or may only be live for a small percentage of users. Unless stated otherwise, don’t expect to see these features if you install the apk. All screenshots and images are real unless otherwise stated, and images are only altered to remove personal information. Rich text editingLet me just begin by saying that I had two major complaints about Google+ on the day it launched, June 28th(-ish), 2011. The first complaint had to do with the service falling into the same trap as every other by giving users no way to categorize their posts for different types of followers. This issue was eventually answered (somewhat) with the advent of Collections. And my other complaint… Text formatting was limited to just *bold*, _italic_, and ~strikethrough~. Basic formatting tools I never thought this day would come, but it looks like Google+ will finally expand the options for text formatting. New resources describe a toolbar with nine different settings that can be used to color, shape, decorate, or adjust the position of text. Here is the list of settings in the order they will be shown on the toolbar, followed by the first few button icons – the rest will be discussed in a bit.
Before getting into more details, I really just want to call out one of the best points here: Formatting is done with buttons, just like a normal text editor. There will be no more littering asterisks, tildes, and underscores around sections of text, and no need to mess with spacing or adding extra symbols when Google+ doesn’t parse them correctly, it will all just work – at least I hope so. Text color and background color Text color and background color come next in the toolbar. These appear to be exactly like what you would expect, though I find it surprising that Google is allowing users to change the background. It’s not clear if this is just for the inline background or if it applies to the entire post, but in either case, it could become pretty unsightly while scrolling through your feed.
These are the icons you’ll see in the toolbar, each reflecting the color choices you’ll have. From left to right, it’s the default, followed by red, blue, green, yellow, and gray. The text colors appear to be fairly intense while background colors are pale or “tinted.” Tapping on the icon will open a small popup palette where you can choose from those colors. These icons were given a different shape and design.
Alignment Coming in with a similar picker style, you’ll also be able to choose your alignment from a list of: Left, Center, and Right.
I’m not sure if this setting will align all of the text of a post or just single paragraphs. For the sake of titles, I’d like it to be possible to center text, then left-align the rest. However, it’s entirely plausible Google may restrict this to an all-or-nothing design. Bulleted list
The next item up is pretty straightforward, it’s just a bulleted list. Aside from the button icon, there’s not much to show on this one, but it’s certainly one of the most-needed and welcome features. Fonts The final button on the toolbar will allow you to change the font of your text. I’m not sure you should get too excited, this probably isn’t an exhaustive list of fonts like you might see in a typical editor. Google only has a list of three standardized choices: Default, Serif, and Condensed.
Default Despite the short list and a picker layout that certainly suggests only items from that list can be selected, it is worth pointing out that the name of the button image is quantum_ic_font_download_black, which might mean there will be other fonts available for download. I mention it, but count me as a skeptic. I’m pretty sure will only have the three choices. Closing comments I want to throw in a personal / editorial comment. Frankly, I think anybody that says Google+ died is either avoiding awareness of an active user base or desperate to prove themselves after predicting its death many years ago. Nevertheless, there’s no denying a big drop in activity as even many diehards eventually abandoned their feeds or directed most of their attention elsewhere. Problems with spam have only further discouraged both posting and commenting. I’m both happy to see these changes and disappointed that they didn’t happen years earlier. It’s impossible not to ask if it’s too little and too late. But let’s also ask why it’s happening now. Why after all this time? Predicting the motivations of a person or company is almost always a bad idea, but if we look around, there’s a fairly plausible story to be found. In light of Verizon’s recent acquisition of Yahoo, which included Tumblr, a not-often-discussed competitor to Google+, it might not be an accident that Google is now enhancing the formatting capabilities of text, thus improving short-form blogging. I think most people expect Verizon to have a fairly bad influence on Tumblr, and many people will be inspired to take their efforts elsewhere. We could probably also look to the assorted dramas surrounding Facebook (more links) or complications with Twitter. Let’s just say, this isn’t the worst time to have a competing social network with plenty of room to accommodate new and returning users. I’m curious to see if people will come back to Google+ or if it’s just too late to start a buzz (pun intended). A new version of the 'Dash to Panel' GNOME Shell extension is available to download. Dash to Panel merges the GNOME Dash (aka Dock) and top bar into a unified, single panel that you can place on any edge of the screen: In the latest update, Dash to Panel v14, the task bar picks up a bunch of welcome improvements, including support for "intellihide" (aka auto-hide). This option (off by default) makes the panel slide out of view when an application window is maximised and/or touching it, and gracefully restored when there's space for it. Although hidden you can access the panel at any time just by moving your mouse to the screen edge it's hiding under. More OptionsAnother change sure to be welcomed by users is the ability to change the stock "show applications" icon (a 3×3 grid by default) to any compatible icon you choose. Developed by Germany-based software company SoftMaker, the office suite is both free to download and free to use — so if you're on the hunt for a free Microsoft Office alternative for Linux you'll almost certainly want to check it out.
