| How to set up two-factor authentication for Twitter Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:05 PM PDT Twitter can be a powerful mouthpiece for you, your brand, or your business — and an even more powerful weapon if your login credentials fall into the wrong hands. You can protect your account by enabling Twitter’s two-factor authentication (2FA) options: Here’s how. To prevent your Twitter account from being compromised by enterprising hoodlums or hackers, there are a couple options available to you. How to enable 2FA for Twitter on iPhone and iPad
You’ll now be required to enter a six-digit code every time you log out and sign back into Twitter. How to enable 2FA for Twitter on your computerWhen you log in to your Twitter account via app or Web browser, you can get the service to send you a code to your phone number that you must first input before gaining access to your account. Setting it up is easy:
How to generate a temporary Twitter password on iPhone and iPadOnce you have 2FA enabled, you’ll be able to set up a temporary password to use when you sign into third-party apps and services.
A new temporary password will automatically generate. How to add a personal information requirement to your Twitter password reset on your computerIf you’d rather not enable two-factor authentication at this time but still want it to be a little bit harder for evildoers to hack your Twitter account, you can require Twitter to request additional information from you in the event of a password reset, like your email address or phone number. You can only enable this from Twittter.com.

| UE Megaboom vs. UE Boom 2 vs. UE Boom 1: What’s the difference? Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:05 PM PDT The UE Boom 2 speaker isn’t all that different from its predecessor, but it does get a little louder, ever so slightly bigger, and a lot more portable. The bigger Megaboom is just as waterproof and almost as portable, but it delivers much more in the thunder department. We’ll take you through some key differences between the UE Boom 1, UE Boom 2, and Megaboom to help you decide whether or not it’s worth it to upgrade. SoundWhereas the UE Boom 1 pumped out 88 decibels of kapooyah, the UE Boom 2 upped things just a smidge to 90, which won’t mean too much in terms of overall volume, but it will allow you to crank it a little more without worrying about distortion. Each driver is about a quarter-inch bigger, though that hasn’t changed the speaker sensitivity, but it will make for somewhat noticeably clearer sound at any volume. The main thing to take away is that, if you loved the sound of the UE Boom 1, you’ll be totally pleased with the UE Boom 2’s performance. With the Megaboom, you’d think the larger size would make for a louder speaker, but UE’s site states that the Megaboom is only rated to 90dbA, so it’s actually on-par with the Boom 2. It’s frequency range is a little larger, at 65Hz to 20kHz to the Boom 2’s 90Hz to 20kHz, so it will produce a deeper, warmer bass, and it’ll produce even less (if any) distortion at high volumes. WaterproofingThis is where the UE Boom 2 and Megaboom shine over the 1. While the UE Boom 1 had an IPX4 water and dust-resistance rating, the 2 and Mega have an IPX7, which means they’re all but waterproof and shock-proof. Like Tech Radar said, “what used to be the best Bluetooth speaker around for most occasions is now the best one for every occasion.” IPX7 means that the UE Boom 2 and Megaboom can be submerged into 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The 1 was only splash-proof, so the upgrade is stark and a massive boon for the 2 and Mega. Battery lifeWhile the battery life remains the same between the Boom 1 and 2, at 15 hours (depending on usage and environmental conditions), the UE Boom 2 massively improves on charge time. It takes almost 3.5 hours to charge the UE Boom 1, while the UE Boom 2 shaves off an entire hour, going from 0 to 100% in 2.5 hours. The Megaboom, being larger, has a larger battery and can last for up to 20 hours of playback. RangeJust how far away can you be from a UE Boom while it’s playing? The UE Boom 1 boasts a 50-foot mobile range, which is rather impressive for Bluetooth. The UE Boom 2, on the other hand, doubles that range to 100 feet, meaning you’ll have incredibly clear sound from really far away. Ditto for the Megaboom. To compare, the Bose Soundlink, one of the best Bluetooth speakers available, only has a range of 30 feet. PriceNow that the UE Boom 1 has been discontinued, you can still get it on Amazon, but the price has jumped from $120 up to $144 for the just the black model, and you can’t get the other straight from Amazon or straight from UE anymore. The boom 2 comes in a bunch of different flavors and prices jump around, starting around $99 for the After Hours edition and getting up around $150 for others. The Megaboom clocks in around $175. Where Megaboom rises above the others
Wireless speaker systems are becoming more prevalent, so the ability to create stereo pairs is popping up all over the place, even with inexpensive speakers like those from Ultimate Ears. The Megaboom has the ability to “Double Up,” which lets you pair two Megabooms together. You can even activate Double Up Lock, which will make the two Megabooms pair up the next time you power them on together. The bottom lineAt this point, The UE Boom 1 shouldn’t even be a consideration for you. The UE Boom 2 has come down to the point where it’s the same price or less (in some cases) than its predecessor. If you’re looking for something very portable, then the UE Boom 2 should be your decision. If you’re looking to be able to pump things a bit louder without distortion, want to make a stereo pair, and don’t mind a somewhat bulkier (though still very portable) speaker, then check out the Megaboom. Price-wise, it’s really not that big of a jump. Updated June 2018: Updated to include the Megaboom and to note that the Boom 1 is discontinued. | AT&T is Raising the Price of All DIRECTV NOW Tiers by $5/Month Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:05 PM PDT ![]() Shortly after unveiling its $15/month Watch TV service, AT&T announced it will bump up the price associated with all DIRECTV NOW tiers by $5/month, starting July 26. Like I said, all tiers, so that includes the $35/month Live a Little package all of the way up to the $70/month Gotta Have It. "In the 18 months since our launch, we have continued to evolve our DIRECTV NOW products to serve this new customer set and compare favorably with our competitors. To continue delivering the best possible streaming experience for both new and existing customers, we're bringing the cost of this service in line with the market—which starts at a $40 price point," an AT&T spokesperson said. This change will take place for new customers starting July 26, while some existing customers may see the change take place August 1. Regardless, whether you're an existing customer or new customer, you're getting a $5/month increase soon. Drat! | What’s New in Android P Developer Preview 4 (Beta 3)? Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:05 PM PDT ![]() With Android P Developer Preview 4 (Beta 3) now ready and rolling out, it's time for another "What's new?" post. We'll continue to update this post as we dive in and look for changes from the past preview. Again, this is DP 4 (Beta 3), arrives as build PPP4.180612.004, and is available to Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL. You can grab it right away for manual flashing or can sit back and wait for the Beta to push out. New Back button! This may seem silly, but the navigation gestures that were introduced with Android P that are quite controversial, have an updated back button. It used to be an enclosed triangle and now it's a back arrow. That's it. It looks slightly nicer, though! Styling tweaks in notification shadeThis is another subtle change, but the icons in the notification shade have all changed slightly. Most of the icons are now outlines (battery saver, flashlight, DND, etc.) rather than filled in. The Settings button and Edit button are too. DARK THEME CHOICE!If you head into Settings>Display, you'll find a Device Theme option that lets you manually toggle to a Light or Dark theme. Previously, you had to choose a dark or light wallpaper in order to make that flip. We knew this was coming and it's awesome! Software infoHere are the details, by the way. New look to the rotate button in the navigation areaSeparate Call volume controlGoogle has added a separate Call volume control in addition to Media, Ring, and Alarm volumes. New icon theming throughout the UIDP4 vs. DP3You can see that Google is trying to be more consistent with icon theming throughout. In the storage settings, we now have those outlined icons in DP4, just like in the notification shade. | Instagram adds ‘You’re All Caught Up’ indicator because algorithmic timelines suck Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:05 PM PDT One upon a time, Instagram had a chronological timeline, so seeing all your friends’ posts was as simple as scrolling to the bottom of the feed. This changed two years ago, when Instagram switched to an algorithmic timeline that showed you ‘relevant’ posts first. Now the company is trying to make the timeline less terrible, with a new ‘You’re All Caught Up’ message. Starting today on the iOS and Android apps, you’ll now see a ‘You’re All Caught Up’ message after you scroll past every post from the past two days. Instagram says this will help you “have a better understanding of your Feed and know you haven't missed recent photos or videos.” You know, like a chronological timeline would. | [Deal Alert] Samsung offering free microSD card up to 256GB with purchase of Galaxy S9/S9+, Note8 Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:05 PM PDT With the existence of services like Google Photos, a large amount of local storage is becoming less and less of a necessity these days. But if you do need lots of gee-bees on your phone and you’re in the market for a new one, you might want to look into Samsung’s flagships. The company is currently offering a free microSD card, up to 256GB in size, with purchases of the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, and Galaxy Note8. Basically, Samsung is just matching the phone’s storage with a microSD card of equal size. Buy a 64GB phone, and you’ll get a 64GB microSD. Buy a 128GB phone, and you’ll get a 128GB microSD. It’s hard to say no to a freebie, and with the Galaxy S9’s new 128GB and 256GB variants, that means that you could have a phone with half a terabyte of storage for not an astronomical amount of money. That figure would have been nuts just a few years ago. The offer is eligible for all purchase types (installment plan, 2-year contract, lease, or outright purchase) until July 31st. Stock is limited (205,000 64GB cards, 1,000 128GB cards, 2,000 256GB cards), but if it runs out, Samsung might send out eCertificates as substitutes. The cards must be applied for on the Shop Samsung app by August 7th, and they will be mailed 6-8 weeks after your phone.
