| Verizon Closing in on New NFL Streaming Deal With Access to TV Streaming Posted: 20 Nov 2017 12:05 PM PST ![]() Verizon and the NFL are supposedly close to a new deal over streaming NFL games. According to Bloomberg, this new deal should expand the way Verizon will be able to offer games too, even as it may force them to give up their exclusive mobile streaming rights. For years, Verizon has had the exclusive on mobile streaming of NFL games, typically through the NFL app that often came pre-installed on their phones. The original deal came with a limitation that forced Verizon to only allow streaming to devices 7-inches and under. In other words, they weren't allowed to stream to TVs. Should the new deal work out, Verizon will be able to offer streaming to all devices, including TVs, which is kind of a big deal. Unfortunately for Verizon, the move to bigger screens will mean they'll likely lose that mobile exclusivity and competitors (cable, satellite, and streaming services) could jump through and offer mobile streaming to their own customers. If you are wondering exactly what Verizon is getting themselves into here after reading that, you are not alone. I, too, am confused at what they are signing up for if they won't have a mobile exclusive anymore. Are we talking about a new Verizon streaming TV service that will play NFL games is on the way? Are we talking about other streaming TV services not getting to stream Thursday Night Football or something along those lines? Remember, Verizon already sells TV service through FiOS, which has access to the NFL already, so this isn't a FiOS exclusive. Yep, I'm confused! We likely won't know until the deal is announced. We'll update you as we learn more. // Bloomberg Powered by WPeMatico The post Verizon Closing in on New NFL Streaming Deal With Access to TV Streaming appeared first on Guaripete. |

| New Honor 7X is Very 2017, US Availability to be Announced December 5 Posted: 20 Nov 2017 12:05 PM PST ![]() A follow up to the Honor 6X was announced this morning, the Honor 7X. While Honor provided specs and most of the nitty gritty one would need to know when considering a smartphone purchase, Honor withheld availability info, as well as pricing. All of that has been saved for a press event scheduled for December 5. For specs, the 7X, which is likely to be pretty affordable, comes with a 5.9″ LCD display (2,160 x 1,080 + 18:9 aspect ratio) with minimal bezel, Kirin 659 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB of storage (supports expandable storage), dual rear-facing cameras (16MP + 2MP), 8MP front-facing camera, fingerprint reader, and 3340mAh battery. We don't yet know LTE bands or Android version, but if I had to guess, it'll likely be GSM unlocked and come with Android 7.1+ with an updated version of EMUI. Considering the Honor 6X was priced at $250, it's hard to imagine this phone will be listed above $300 in the US. If that's the case, you're getting a solid package of specs, as well as this 2017 hardware design. Not bad, Honor. Be on the lookout on December 5 when the rest of the info will be announced. | Play Catan online and cross-platform with USM’s recently released Catan Universe Posted: 20 Nov 2017 12:04 PM PST ![]() Catan Universe is United Soft Media’s newest version of Catan and not only is it finally a multiplayer focused release on Android, but it can also be played against your friends and family no matter the platform they want to play on. That’s right, whether you have purchased the game on PC, macOS, iOS, or Android you can enjoy an online multiplayer round of Catan. Despite the slight shift in the name (“Catan Universe” instead of simply “Catan”), you can expect all of the original board game rules in this release. So if there was any worry that this was a reimagining of the game thanks to the new name, it should be made clear it plays as you remember, which is a great thing. What is interesting with this release is that you will find two of the game’s most popular expansions (Seafarers and Cities & Knights) as well as the inclusion of The Rivals for Catan card game as extra content that is purchasable through a few different in-app purchases. Considering the initial release already has two expansion included, assuming the rest will come in the future is probably a safe bet. Now, even though Catan Universe is available for free, you will have to purchase the base game before you can dive into any of the multiplayer aspects. The only gameplay available to you once you install the title is a free match and a tutorial. If you want to play more than that, the base game will set you back 500 gold coins. The thing is, coin packs are not sold in 500 increments. Luckily you do receive 100 free coins with your initial download, so you will only need to purchase the 400 coin pack that is priced at $3 .99. You can also purchase the base game and its two expansions for 1300 coins. Sadly a 1300 coin pack isn’t available, so you will have to either purchase the 1700 coin pack for $14.99, or lesser packages in various quantities that will only add up to even more money spent. To me, this whole setup of how you can purchase the game and its expansions is rather crooked, as you are constantly forced to either buy multiple coin packs or simply procure a pack that contains more coins than you want in order to get the “best deal.” And I mean sure this is the norm in the mobile gaming world, but that still doesn’t mean it isn’t a smarmy maneuver by USM all the same. It’s also clear that there are XP boosters available in the store along with Scrolls that have the planned potential to unlock future game content. This does not sound like a great addition to a multiplayer-focused title. While a player’s experience level may not mean much in the grand scheme, being able to purchase outright cheats to earn more XP than other players who have also paid for this game is yet another lame move by the developer that does not instill a lot of confidence in their future plans. While it is great to finally see an Android version of Catan that can be played online and cross-platform, the convoluted purchasing path and experience boosters make me wonder what else the developer has planned. I mean sure, the classic board game mechanics are chiefly what you would expect, and the presentation is top notch, so if you only plan on playing with friends and family the XP boosts shouldn’t be much of an issue. But I say buyer beware, as things could easily go south for Catan Universe, just as we have seen of so many other Android games in the past. If the developers feel comfortable monetizing in such sneaky ways, what else could be down the pike? | [Deal Alert] Verizon’s discontinued Wear24 smartwatch pops up on eBay for $129.99 ($220 off) Posted: 20 Nov 2017 12:04 PM PST Verizon tried its hand at selling an Android Wear smartwatch earlier this year, but the $350 Wear24 was a flop and Verizon quietly pulled it after just four months. Perhaps this smartwatch will be more appealing now at a steep discount. The Wear24 has appeared on eBay for just $129.99, less than half the original price. Verizon’s loss is your gain. The Wear24 is manufactured by Quanta Computers, a white label manufacturer that produces hardware for many different companies (that’s why the listing says Verizon/Quanta). The device is pretty standard for a Wear 2.0-powered watch. It has a Snapdragon 2100, a 1.39-inch 480×480 OLED, 4GB of storage, and a 430mAh battery. As it was sold on Verizon, the Wear24 works on LTE, but you can just use it on Bluetooth and WiFi. The watches on eBay are new and unopened—Verizon clearly had some extra stock to unload. You have your choice of black, silver, and rose gold colors. Buyers get free economy shipping int he US, but the seller will also ship to other countries. Tax is paid only in New Jersey. | Win one of three unlocked Moto X4s from Ting and Android Police [US] Posted: 20 Nov 2017 12:04 PM PST ![]() The Moto X4 is one of the company’s latest midrange phones and an immensely capable device. It isn’t a flagship, but it’s a bit above your standard mid-range expectations. Granted, the $400 cost to grab one makes that abundantly clear, and that price is one of the few drawbacks. Thankfully for you, we’ve teamed up with Ting, the smarter choice for phone service, to give our readers a chance to win one of three Moto X4s. For all the Moto X4’s sordid details, you can read our full review, but the TL;DR is that it’s a decent phone with mid-range specs, an underwhelming camera, and a polarizing design. It packs a Snapdragon 630 with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage in with a 3,000mAh battery, 12+8MP dual (wide-angle) camera setup, and all with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Sporting IP68 water resistance, it’s a bit more durable than your average Motorola midranger. The back of the phone is glass, though, so don’t go throwing it around. If you aren’t familiar with Ting, you should be. Unlike most carriers, its service isn’t plan based. You just use your phone as you would, and pay according to base rates for usage at the end of the month. Minutes for calls, SMS, and data are all billed separately. Ting even provides you with tools on both its site and your phone to enable fine granular control of those individual services, so you can better limit how much you pay, just in case you’re worried. It’s all no-contract with no overages and no tricks. Sound like something you’re interested in checking out? You can check out more details here, and get $25 off your bill if you sign up, or $25 off a new phone in the Ting shop. To enter this giveaway, you must have a US mailing address. Three winners will each receive one unlocked Moto X4. This contest will run until Friday, November 24th at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. An additional bonus entry is available once per day, so remember to bookmark or keep the tab open so you can come back.
