| iCloud Photo Library and security: What you need to know! Posted: 21 May 2018 12:05 PM PDT Our photos can be as personal and private as our messages, financial information, and identities. iCloud Photo Library wants to make sure all our pictures and videos are backed up online and available on all our devices. To do that, it moves the bits that make up those pictures and videos from our iPhones, iPads, and Macs up to servers on the internet and then back down to our other iPhones, iPads, and Macs. That means both the transport and the storage needs to be secure so that our content is only ever available to us and us alone. How does Apple keep my photos secure?Apple uses end-to-end encryption to keep your photos safe as they move between your devices and iCloud. As Apple notes on its support site, your photos are transmitted under a “minimum of 128-bit AES encryption”. This means that your photos are given the same treatment as your iPhone backups, iCloud Drive, and your other iCloud-stored content. How does end-to-end encryption keep my photos safe?On a very basic level, it means that when one of your images is being transmitted (uploaded or downloaded), that photo is protected while it’s in transit. This means that if someone were to get ahold of the data for a photo that you were uploading from your iPhone to iCloud while it was being uploaded, they shouldn’t be able to see the actual image. What else does Apple do to keep my photos secure?Apple employs AES and SHA, industry standards for securely encrypting and hashing data. The company goes further in its iOS security paper, which offers greater detail on how the company keeps your photos (and all of your data in iCloud) safe:
At a basic level, these standards are very good ways to protect photos and other data while they’re being uploaded, downloaded, or stored. What about privacy?Apple takes privacy very seriously and, as noted above, stores your data chunks without user-identifying information. The company also gives you options for controlling your own privacy. First, on your iPhone or iPad themselves, it’s easy to grant or revoke permission for third-party apps to access your photos. However, if you’ve decided that there are images that you don’t want to keep around, it’s easy to delete them from your iCloud Photo Library. What’s really great is that if you want to delete something, you only have to do so on one device. So if you delete an image on your iPhone, it will appear in Recently Deleted not only on that device, but any iPad or Mac connected to that iCloud account. From there, your photo will remain in Recently Deleted for the next 30 days if you change your mind, or you can choose to completely delete it right away. Questions? If you have any other questions about iCloud Photo Library and security, let us know in the comments. Updated May 2018: This remains the latest information on how iCloud Photo Library keeps your photos and video safe and encrypted. | Eufy’s newest RoboVac 11S robot vacuum is down to $187 Posted: 21 May 2018 12:05 PM PDT The Eufy RoboVac 11S slim self-charging robotic vacuum cleaner has dropped in price for the first time. It is down to $186.99 when it has been selling for around $220 since it first released in early May. Other versions of the RoboVac have dropped in price in the past, but this one never has.
The RoboVac 11S is slimmer than other versions while still having even more powerful suction. It uses BoostIQ tech to increase that suction power when it’s needed. The rechargeable battery delivers up to 100 minutes of performance, and the vacuum will return to its dock automatically when the battery runs low. It uses infrared sensors to evade obstacles and stop itself from falling down steps. It comes with a remote control, charging base, power adapter, and several brushes and accessories. Eufy backs it up with a 12-month warranty. Users give it 4.3 stars based on 2,900 reviews. The post Eufy’s newest RoboVac 11S robot vacuum is down to $187 appeared first on Guaripete. |

| Procreate Pocket Update Brings a Complete Redesign, Optimization for iPhone X Posted: 21 May 2018 12:05 PM PDT ![]() Rebuilt from the ground up, the updated app is now powered by the same graphics engine of its larger sibling. With that upgrade, the app can be used to create illustrations with a richer P3 color depth. Artists can also take advantage of 136 different brushes, including new wet painting effects with your finger. The app now also supports a number of features previously reserved for the iPad including ColorDrop, QuickLine, Layer Masks, and more. And Procreate Pocket also sports two new exclusive features. | Verizon LG G6 Now Getting Android Oreo Update! Posted: 21 May 2018 12:05 PM PDT ![]() The LG G6 on Verizon is now receiving an update to Android Oreo. This is noteworthy, as I do believe this is the first US carrier variant to get Android 8.0. The update weighs in at 1.89GB, so be sure you have open storage on your phone and plenty of battery life to get it installed. This one will take a while. With the update to Android 8.0 "Oreo," LG G6 owners will have access to Android's native picture-in-picture feature, a better notification styling (with more controls), notification badges (which are worthless), and battery and performance improvements. There could be much more, but Verizon has not yet posted the release notes. Once they do, we'll update this post. To check for the update, head into Settings>System update. Cheers @mouf32! | F*ck All These Bill Credit “Deals” Posted: 21 May 2018 12:04 PM PDT ![]() FREE PHONE!*BOGO!**UP TO 50% OFF!***$150 INSTANT DISCOUNT!****BEST SAMSUNG FOR LIFE!******With purchase of two phones that we've purposely overpriced by $80, both under equipment installment plan and 24 months worth of bill credits, that probably, maybe start within two billing cycles, assuming we don't forget and force you to call us to fix it, because our systems are so anti-consumer that we wouldn't proactively fix that for you and make sure you are getting the deal we promised. Thanks for calling, though, can we sell you this $59.99 case that Amazon thinks is only worth $6.99? **Buy one, get one, what? Free? Lol. This is "buy one, get one loaned to you for a while that's paid off after we hold you hostage for 2 years and collect boatloads of service payments." We are a wireless service carrier and do not care about you, nor are we willing to give you a real deal that doesn't force you to sign hundreds of dollars away to us, along with 24 months of your life. Want to leave in the middle of your installment plan? Pay-up, son. ***Choose one tier 1 phone, get a second up to 50% off, but only if you trade-in a phone that was just released a month ago and costs more than the phone you are trying to buy right now. What's that? You only have last year's best phone that was the most expensive phone ever? We'll give you up to 20 or 30%, assuming it's mint. Also, that phone you just gave us, that you paid for, we aren't giving you that money back today in a trade. Nope, you just got suckered into being paid out for your owned phone over 24 months, which is hilarious, you dimwit. ****We've been over this – you will never get an instant anything. What we will do is offer you 3 different monthly payment plans that last for varying periods of time, name them confusing things that don't refer to their actual length, then make sure your eyes gloss over at use of words like "Enhanced" and "Plus" and "Beyond" and "Un" before running you through asterisks 1, 2, and 3 above to get you your "discount," all as you confirm a subscription to our streaming TV service that can only be cancelled by calling us and buying a case. *****Holy shit, guy, you fell for this? This is a lease program. You don't want any part of this. You will be looped into an endless cycle of upgrading while paying thousands into an abyss of bad network that is always trying to be sold because it continually invested over the years in network technologies doomed from the beginning. But the monthly payment is low? Hah, of course it is, our network sucks, hence the reason you can stream "unlimited" video at 144p and music at dial-up speeds, ringing dial-tone pre-loading and all. | LG G7 ThinQ Pricing is Here and It’s More Expensive Than the Galaxy S9 Posted: 21 May 2018 12:04 PM PDT ![]() When LG announced the G7 ThinQ, we knew that the phone was coming to Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint but that AT&T had passed on it in favor of a yet-to-be-announced LG phone. What we didn't know was pricing, although we were told during a briefing to expect pricing near the LG G6. Today, T-Mobile announced pricing for the phone and it's not actually priced near the G6. Instead, the LG G7 ThinQ is priced above the Galaxy S9, which probably isn't a great move. T-Mobile plans to sell the LG G7 ThinQ for $750 at full retail, or $30 per month after a $30 down payment. The Galaxy S9, a phone most would argue is superior to the G7, costs $720 at full retail and doesn't require a down payment to get into one. And in case you were wondering, the LG G6 dropped in at around $650 when it launched last year. While I'm aware that LG packed a lot of specs into the G7 ThinQ, I'm not sure LG is in position to battle with Samsung at a higher price point. You could also argue that Samsung packed even more into the Galaxy S9 (like a better display and camera), yet it starts $30 cheaper. I'm not saying that LG should be bargain-bin-pricing their phones to OnePlus levels, but if I'm standing in a T-Mobile store looking at both and I see that Samsung's new phone is cheaper, why would I go elsewhere? Unless LG can sell me on a benefit that the G7 has over the S9 (because I can't think of one), I don't know why anyone else would do anything differently. T-Mobile is trying to soften that price blow a bit with a BOGO deal on the phone when it goes up for pre-order on May 25. If you buy two G7 ThinQs on equipment installment plans (EIP), you can get a second one free in the form of monthly bill credits. In other words, a 2-year contract. | [Deal Alert] 15% off select eBay purchases of $50 or more, up to $50 off Posted: 21 May 2018 12:04 PM PDT It seems like every other week, eBay releases a 10 or 15% off site-wide off coupon. The time has now come again, as a new Memorial Day promotion has started. Now you can get 15% off items from select sellers, as long as the product is $50 or more. You can find all the eligible items here, but note the prices listed are before the 15% off discount. The offer is capped at $50 off, so not the best deal we’ve seen in recent months, but still worth pointing out since it will last until May 25. Some interesting tech products include a JBL Flip 3 speaker for $59.49, a Gear VR with Oculus controllers for $50.15, and a Dell i7 laptop for $744.99. Remember to add coupon code PMEMDAY at checkout to get the discount. The post [Deal Alert] 15% off select eBay purchases of $50 or more, up to $50 off appeared first on Guaripete. |
